The Harvard University Law School (colloquially, Harvard Law or HLS) is one of Harvard’s Graduate School of Professional Studies. Harvard Law University is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and is considered one of the most prestigious law schools in the United States.

It is the second oldest law school in the country and the oldest in continuous operation. It is also home to the largest library of academic law in the world. The repeated references to the school in American culture led to the publication of The Wall Street Journal’s Law Blog saying, “There is no doubt that Harvard Law School occupies a special place in the collective awareness of our nation.”

Harvard Law introduced what would become a standard curriculum in the first year of law schools in the United States, including contract clauses, property and damages, criminal law, and civil procedures, in the 1870s, under the Dean’s mandate; Christopher Columbus Langdale. At Harvard University, Langdale also developed a method of teaching case law, which became the predominant model for law schools in the United States.
