About José Marti Foundation

This prestigious scholarship award is sponsored by the José Marti Foundation. The José Marti Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to providing educational opportunities to students of Hispanic descent through fundraising. They raise funds to award scholarships to students annually

The José Marti Foundation was established in the year 1989 as the fundraising arm of the José Marti Scholarship Challenge Grant. The bill was passed into law by Dr Arnhilda Badia in the year 1988 who was then the State Representative.

Applicants are ranked first according to the highest need, which is always determined by FASFA, and then by GPA, and then the application submission date. Applicants are evaluated and notified at the end of every June to determine their eligibility.

At the National level, the José Marti Foundation recognizes individuals who make a difference in the lives of English Language Learners and bilingual students also.

This is based on the credibility of the subject towards a high school diploma for an undergraduate scholarship or perhaps a 3.0 institutional cumulative grade point average for an undergraduate college program if applying for a graduate level.
  • An applicant must be a Florida legal resident or a US citizen or an eligible non-citizen. An applicant’s citizenship status is determined by the post-secondary institution.

Scholarship Application Procedures

Prospective undergraduate students must ensure they apply during their senior year of high school and also ensure that their high school designee or principal certifies online the student’s seventh semester unweighted cumulative GPA to the Office of Students

Financial Assistance (OSFA) according to a date established by the Florida Depart of Education (FDOE).

Prospective graduate students must not fail to ensure that an admission office official at the post-secondary institution the applicant intends to attend certifies the student’s institutional cumulative GPA online to OSFA by a date established by FDOE.

The post-secondary institution will disburse the awards to eligible applicants each academic term.

An undergraduate student enrolled in a five-year undergraduate degree program is eligible to receive financial aid only for a maximum of 10 semesters or 15 quarters.

An undergraduate is only eligible to receive an award for a maximum of 8 semesters (i.e. 12 quarters) over a period of 6 consecutive years or perhaps until receipt of a baccalaureate degree, whichever occurs first.

An eligible undergraduate student who enrolls in a 3/2 program that is to end in an advanced degree will no longer be eligible to receive undergraduate funding when a degree-seeking student:

  • receives a baccalaureate degree;
  • has their enrolment status changed from Undergraduate to Graduate or perhaps;
  • Enroll in Graduate courses.

An eligible graduate can also receive a maximum of 4 semesters or 6 quarters of funding.

There is no renewal application required to renew the award. The award recipients are automatically considered for a renewal award.

However, eligibility for renewal is decided at the end of the 2nd semester, 3rd quarter, or the equivalent of each academic year. The creditor clock hours earned during the previous summer may have a counted toward the total number of credit hours required for the award renewal.

For a graduate study, the student must have earned at least 9 credit hours per term or the equivalent for which the award was received.

Students must file the FASFA each academic year, and in time, to be processed error-free by the United States Department of Education on or before May 15th.

If a student, however, fails to meet the requirements for renewal during the probationary period, he or she will become ineligible for the funding. But the student is eligible to apply for restoration of 1 academic year.

An institutional cumulative GPA of 3.0 must be earned on a 4.0 scale at the end of the 2nd semester or 3rd quarter of the academic year preceding the year the award us sought after.
