The Malawi air Force shall conduct Malawi Defense force Recruitment recruitment exercise for suitable young men and women wishing to pursue a career in the force as Regular Soldiers and Air force soldiers too.

Malawi air force recruitment comes in different forms each year; different processes are always applied. A different force unit does not carry this process out but by the same Malawi defense force recruitment unit.

Military service and Obligation

18 years of age is definitely required for voluntary military service. Once you reach this age, You could go into the Malawi Defense force Recruitment voluntarily.

A high school certificate is required for enlisted recruits from different parts if the country.

College certificate is required for Malawi Defence Force Recruitment in the officer level.

Requirements for Malawi Air Force recruitment

  • Must be a Malawian citizen.
  • You must be single and without children.
  • Must be between 18-24 years of age to be eligible for Malawi Air Force recruitment.
  • You must not be less than 165cm tall for males and 158 cm tall for females.
  • You must have a Malawi education Certificate of Education (MSCE).
  • Those with special skills will have an added advantage.
  • Must have no criminal record.
  • Physical and mental fitness is vital.
  • You must be prepared to undergo an intensive medical checkup

Application letters indicating District of Origin with copies of Certificates should be sent to the Military Station. This station should be nearest to the applicants’ District of origin.

The Republic of Malawi Air Wing was established with German aid in 1976 with the delivery of six single engined Dornier Do 27s and eight Do twenty-eight light-weight twins in 1976-1980.

Also in the same era, the air force received an Alouette III, an AS 350 and an AS 355 Ecureuil, and three SA 330 H/L Puma Helicopters from France. A single BAe 125-800 was delivered in 1986.

The Republic of Malawi Army Air Wing (MAAW) had one fixed-wing squadron and one chopper squadron as of 1988.

The Malawi air Force could move a small contingent of troops, perform a limited visual reconnaissance role, and provide some VIP transport.

The fixed-wing squadron had four Dornier-28 Sky servant utility Plane for troop transport, a pair of D0-228 light-weight transports, and one HS-125 VIP transport.

In addition, the Federal Republic of Germany was expected to deliver up to four D0-228 light-weight transport craft to the Air Wing in 1988.

Pilots received military training for the Dornier Plane in the Federal Republic of Germany.

The United States provided coaching for this squadron in Phoenix, Arizona.

The chopper squadron was equipped with four French helicopters, two SA-330 Pumas, two AS.350 Ecureuile, and one SA-360 Dauphin acquired in 1985.

As of 1988, there have been thirteen rotary-wing pilots within the MAAW.

French and West German technicians were allotted to the Malawi air Force and were essential to the correct maintenance of the Plane.

For thirty-one years (1979 to 2010), France maintained military cooperation in Aeronautics and plane-related study by posting a military cooperation officer responsible of coaching pilots and mechanics to the Republic of Malawi Air Wing helicopter squadron, known as the French Squadron.

Since the concept of Malawi taking part in peacekeeping operations in Africa appeared impossible, France terminated this cooperation in July 2010.

The government of Republic of Malawi President Joyce Banda round-faced pressure to reveal documents associated with yield from the sale of a presidential jet to British island company Bohnox Enterprises.

The money from the $15 million group action was to be Invested to get maize and medication for the country.

Reports, however, surfaced in March 2015 that the cash was missing or had been invested in offset military arms and Malawi air Force debt.
