Applicants with a federal or federally recognized cantonal school leaving certificate (MATURA) can apply in any faculty at the University. Students with a degree from any Swiss Institute of applied sciences are entitled to study at any faculty of their choosing.

Non-Swiss qualifications recognized by the University of Zurich must be based on general education, and they must represent the highest graduation diploma from high school or secondary school in the respective country.

If you don’t have a recognized qualification, the school does a full entrance examination at the level of a Swiss federal, cantonal university entry qualification (MAR). An additional examination can be made depending on your foreign qualification. It is carried out once a year in August.

Master’s Admission:

Application for this degree generally requires a bachelor’s degree with a total of 180 ECTS credits from a university recognized by the school. They are different admissions policies for this program, depending on your qualification or if you’re changing your course or your degree is not equivalent to that of the school (180 ECTS).

Doctoral Admission:

They are two ways to earn a doctorate degree at the University of Zurich, namely, individual doctorate and PhD programs/graduate schools. Admission For International Students:

Generally, applicants who want to study at the University of Zurich must have a national “D” visa, but students from the EU/ETFA nations do not need the visa. A passport or ID card is enough. This also applies to students from Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Singapore.

Language Requirements;

• For non-German-speaking students applying for a Bachelor, master’s, or teacher training program, they must present proof of sufficient language skills in German or take a German exam without a recognized certificate.

All master programs at the faculty of Business, Economics, and Informatics with the exception of Business administration. All Masters program at faculty of science and all Masters study of English linguistics/literature.

• There is also a proof of competence test in English for non-English speaking students.

• There is a non-refundable application fee of CHF 100. (CHF 400 for late application). There are different application deadlines for Swiss or foreign qualifications.
• If you’re not yet in possession of an entry qualification (Swiss Matura, University entry qualification, high school diploma, Bachillerato, or other recognized certificates) at the time of application or before the deadline expires, you can submit them on receipt.
• After entering, all students must register in their place of residence within 14 days.

The University of Zurich Tuition Fees

The University of Zurich operates a flat-rate tuition fee per semester.

Per semester students CHF 720 Ph.D. candidates CHF 150

Ph.D. candidates pay a reduced fee if they submit confirmation of doctoral study signed by their Ph.D. supervisors. Foreign undergraduates are to pay an additional charge of CHF500 per semester, while those in Master, Ph.D., and students in teaching programs also pay an additional charge of CHF100.

Admission periods at the University of Zurich

Applicants with Swiss qualifications can apply for the fall semester from the 1st of January to 30th of April or for the spring semester from the 2nd of August to the 30th of November.

Late applications for the fall semester start from 1^st of May to the 31st of July, while spring kicks off from the 1st of December till the 31st of January.

Applicants with foreign qualifications can also apply at the same time if a visa is not required. But if a visa is required, deadlines for the fall semester start from the 1st of January till the 28th of February, or for the spring semester start by 2nd of August till the 31st of August.
