The Foundation offers high school scholarships to students with financial needs, who have a curious entrepreneurial spirit and who have the potential for academic excellence.

The scholarship recipients are known as Allan Gray Orbis Scholars, receive high school funds, as well as support and programs to develop their business and entrepreneurial talents.

Their goal is to develop a community of young entrepreneurially leaders so that their Scholars have the opportunity to go to university through the Allan Gray Orbis Fellowship Programme.

Scholarship Worth

The scholarship program provides access to quality secondary or high school education.

Their goal is to inspire the passion of selected Scholars or Researchers and to develop their potential to become autonomous and high impact entrepreneurs.

The scholarship covers the following elements:

  • Full tuition and boarding fees
  • A monthly allowance (pocket money)
  • A travel subsidy
  • Stationery and prescribed books
  • Toiletries, school uniforms, and leisure clothing
  • Support for extra-mural activities

Scholars also have access to an entrepreneurial or business development program.

This guarantees the students continued progress by providing additional business leadership and entrepreneurial development opportunities.

We understand that the transition to a new school can be difficult. The Foundation provides additional support to the Scholars to ensure a smooth and successful transition to their new environments.

Eligibility

For South Africa

  • The applicant must be a South African citizen
  • The candidate must be in Grade 6 this year (2021) to apply
  • A minimum of 70% in English and math (5th through 6th grade)
  • A minimum of 70% in Numeracy and Literacy in the Foundation Scholarship Exam. (After the application process, they select the eligible candidates and invite them to take the scholarship exam. Hence, they then use the test results with the primary or elementary school results to select the candidates for the interview).
  • Candidates must not be older than 12 years and no younger than 11 in Grade 6.
  • Demonstrate a financial need
  • Demonstrate the following business features:

  • Achievement Excellence: Set high standards for themselves

They work with a select group of partner schools and will only provide funding for learners who choose to attend one of these schools. Candidates will receive all the necessary communication from the Foundation. The Foundation places the Scholars, so they don’t need to find a school or make contact with the school until the Foundation tells them to.

It’s possible to lose your Scholarship should you fail to maintain the academic requirements. So also, should you fail to keep to the agreed-upon terms and conditions of the Memorandum of Agreement that governs the Scholarship Award.
