Mars Hill University is a private, four-year liberal arts institution in western North Carolina’s mountains. It is the oldest university in western North Carolina.

It was founded in 1856 by Baptist families in the region.

The university offers 35 undergraduate majors and includes a school of nursing and graduate schools in education, criminal justice, and management.

From 1859 to 2013, the school was called Mars Hill College, but in August 2013, it officially changed its name to Mars Hill University.

  • A minimum GPA of 3.4, although the program may approve admission because of special backgrounds, abilities, and interests. 
  • Essay (700-1000 words).
  • Online Application.
  • $50 application fee (waived for MHU Alumni)                         
  • Two letters of recommendation. One must be from a current or former university professor. Mail in a sealed envelope to Mars Hill University, Office of Admissions, P.O. Box 6663, Mars Hill, NC 28754, or directly from the referee to [email protected].
  • Submit all official high school and college transcripts.

FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:

  • Complete and submit an Application for Admission.
  • Send official copies of your SAT 1010 (college code: 5395) or ACT (college code: 3124) and TOEFL (minimum score 500) or IELTS scores ( 173 computerized, 61 internet) if English is not your first language.
  • Official copies of all Transcripts from all institutions attended
  • Transfer students must also send Official College/University Transcripts. Students who have attended university overseas can get an official course-by-course evaluation completed by WES transfer evaluation service.
  • Send two Letters of Recommendation. 
  • When the Admissions Office receives the above items, your admission file is “complete,” and the review process begins.
  • If accepted for admission, your Admissions Counselor will notify you of all financial aid available.
  • To accept the Admissions and Financial Aid offers, International Students must submit the Statement of Financial Conditions for International Students and the documentary evidence required.
  • Submit your $250 Advance Tuition Payment.
