UML Student Email

The University of Massachusetts Lowell offers all currently enrolled students student email accounts. The email account is provided through Microsoft Office 365 and includes many features, such as online storage, calendar, and task management.

You must use your Riverhawk ID and password to access your UML student email account. Your Riverhawk ID is the same as your student ID number. 

If you have never set up your Riverhawk ID password, you can follow the instructions on the UML Information Technology website instructions.

Once you have logged in to your UML student email account, you can send and receive messages, create and manage calendar events, and keep track of tasks. You can also access Microsoft Office 365 applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

1. Why Do I Need UML Student Email?

As college students, we are constantly connected to our devices. Whether checking social media, messaging friends, or browsing the web, we’re always connected. However, many of us don’t realize the importance of email until we need it.

For UML students, email is a great way to stay connected with your professors and classmates. It allows you to communicate quickly and efficiently. 

Additionally, UML student email is a reliable way to keep track of your academic progress. 

If you have trouble accessing your online student portal or if you need to submit an assignment outside of regular office hours, email is an excellent option for tracking down information.

Professors often require that you sign into their online portal to submit assignments or check grades. You can maintain confidentiality with your UML student email while communicating with your instructors.

2. Do Students Keep Their UML student email after Graduation?

UML students often have many questions about what will happen to their student email once they graduate. Will it be deleted and sent to the alum association?

When you graduate from UML, your student email account will be closed unless you keep it open. 

If you keep your account open, your email will be added to the alum association’s list, and you can use it for personal purposes, but you cannot use it for professional purposes. 

You can also choose to have your email sent to a new address after Graduation, but this is not mandatory and is up to you.

3. What is the email address for UMass Lowell?

Your legal first and last name will appear in all student email accounts in the format: Firstname [email protected].

4. How to Configure Your Email?

As a new UMass Lowell student, you must create an email account. These credentials will also grant you access to the majority of university systems.

You will need your UMass Lowell 8-digit student ID and the following three steps to begin.

  • Look for your new UML student email address on the internet.
  • Go to the UML My Password website and select “Change my Password” to create your new password and profile. Your original password will look like this: The final eight numbers of your student ID are Riverhawk12345678.
  • Alter your password and respond to the security questions
  • Access Residence Life, Placement Testing, the Student Information System, and other services using your new email and password.

Please remember that your email account is a crucial tool for remaining connected to the university community; once you’ve registered for classes, the university will send official notifications to you via email. 

We want to remind you that you should NEVER submit your email password by email. Students should regularly check their UML email accounts.

5. How Do I Change my UML Email Password?

To change your new password, go to myPassword.

Please keep in mind that off-campus password changes may differ from on-campus methods. Please review IT’s guidance on off-campus password changes for more details.

Your first password will be Riverhawk12345678, where the last eight numbers represent your student ID. This password must be changed, and your password reset profile must be set up for future password changes.

If you do not remember your email password and have not created a password reset profile on myPassword, you must call the UMass Lowell IT Service Desk at 978-934-4357. 

To authenticate your identity, prepare to supply personal information (such as your student ID and birthday).

6. How Can I Use Office 365 to access my email?

Enter your full student email address, including @student.uml.edu, on the Office 365 login screen (refer to Step 1).

Enter your new email address, select your language and time zone, and you’re all set!

7. How do I add a UML email to my iPhone or Apple iOS Device?

To add your email to your iPhone or Apple IOS device, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Settings and click Mail. Then tap Accounts.
  2. Once you’re in the accounts section. Click “Add Account.
  3. Tap Microsoft Exchange.
  4. Afterward, you will have options to fill in your Email address, Server, username, and password to your UMass Lowell email account.
  5. Then, you type the name your Exchange account will have on your device in the Description field. The title will be displayed in a list format if you have more than one email account configured. Example: UML Exchange, UML Email
  6. Click Next to continue.

You will notice that your phone will connect to the UMass Lowell Exchange server with the information you entered. 

If it’s successful, it will take a few minutes to synchronize your device and the Exchange server. When done, your most recent email, calendar items, and Exchange Contacts will be viewable on your device.

To configure settings for the account you just created:

Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars> and tap the account you created.

Note you turn on your Mail, Contacts, Contacts, and Calendars switches. 

8. Can I read emails in other email systems, such as Outlook?

Yes. To connect to your UMass Lowell Exchange Online student email account, you can utilize various POP3 and IMAP4 email programs. Each email application supports a different set of functionality.

9. Is the UMass Lowell Office 365 Exchange Online student email service required?

Yes. Your UMass Lowell Exchange Online student email address will be used for all official university business. 

When you log onto your Exchange Online account, you can use the Forward option to forward your student email to another email account.

10. How long will I have this address?

UMass Lowell Office 365 Exchange Online student email addresses are free and valid for your studies. They are automatically deactivated one year after you graduate or leave UMass Lowell and reactivated if you re-enroll in a class.

11. How do I find my email password?

The format of your initial password is Riverhawk12345678, where the last eight numbers are your student ID if you are using your email account for the first time. You have to modify this password. Change your password by going to http://mypassword.uml.edu.

Create your password reset profile after changing your password to prepare for future password changes.

12. Can I use Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) or Outlook Mobile Access to access my UMass Lowell Office 365 Exchange Online student email account?

No. Exchange Online does not support WAP or Outlook Mobile Access. Exchange Online supports POP, IMAP, and Exchange ActiveSync for mobile mailbox access and synchronization. Visit Set Up Email on Mobile Phone or Tablet for further details.

13. I want to send emails from my UMass Lowell Office 365 Exchange Online account to Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or Hotmail. Is this possible?
