Inspired by Alexander Hamilton’s legacy of leadership through service, Alexander Hamilton Scholars (AHS) empowers high-achieving and underserved students to succeed in college and career through the Hamilton Scholarship.
Every year, Alexander Hamilton’s Scholars selects 35 underserved high school juniors for their academic, personal, service, and entrepreneurial accomplishments, to participate in its no-cost, 5-year empowerment program.
The five-year program provides underserved students with a comprehensive network of support and guidance as they transition from high school to college and college to career.

About the Hamilton Scholarship
Their primary vision is to build leaders of character who will improve our nation and our world through their service, innovation, and excellence.
These students receive mentorship, practical guidance, and a comprehensive network of support; much like Hamilton did, they can leave a long-lasting legacy that will forever change their communities, our nation, and the world.
Provided at no cost to the student, the program consists of individual support through phone calls, video conferencing, and emails with AHS staff members and an assigned peer Scholar mentor.
Group support and learning are offered through conference calls and Leader Weeks. All curriculums are designed around our 5 Pillars of Success.
After completion of the 5-year Empowerment Program, success is defined by all Scholars for reaching the following benchmarks:
TRANSITION:
A successful transition from high school to college and college to career.
HERITAGE:
Increased knowledge of how the history of the United States connects with each Scholar’s journey and the collective national experience. Also increased civic engagement and participation in community governance.
EMPOWERMENT:
Establishment and fulfillment of the goals identified in the Personal Development Plan process in all seven key areas – financial, career, educational, public service, family & friends, personal, and spiritual. The goals correspond with the Scholars’ values and guiding principles.
FINANCIAL LITERACY:
Scholars graduate college with manageable debt and a solid understanding of how to create and manage a budget, save money, and invest in their future financial health.
LEADERSHIP:
Inspired by Alexander Hamilton’s legacy of leadership through service, Scholars must prioritize and value their responsibility to use their talents and skills to effect positive change in their communities, the nation, and the world and understand the importance of social impact and legacy.
Achieving these goals requires Alexander Hamilton Scholars staff to offer their full support and guidance to each Scholar while helping them access resources and opportunities.
This relationship and the program’s success rely on reciprocity and mutual commitment from AHS staff and Scholars.
Every curriculum year has corresponding assignments and conference calls that require Scholar time and attention, and prompt communication is essential.
The winners will also receive a $500 cash scholarship for college expenses.
In addition, all winners will have access to Alexander Hamilton Scholars internship programs and will join a distinguished cohort of peers from across the United States.
This unique Scholar community extends through twelve years of cohorts and supports one another as they take steps to achieve a college education and a meaningful career.
Since awarding the first Olive & Herbert Randall Scholarship in 1954, the Hamilton Community Foundation has given over $13 million in scholarships to more than 3,000 area students.
Hamilton Scholarship 2023 Eligibility
- Applicants must be high school juniors planning to attend college.
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
- Applicants must demonstrate financial and personal needs. Hamilton Friends serves students from low-income households. The applicant’s financial, family, and community situation will be considered.
- Applicants must have a good record of community service.
Level/Field of Study
Currently, the Hamilton Community Foundation manages an extensive and exciting scholarship program for:
- Graduating high school students attending high schools in the more excellent Hamilton, Ohio area
- High schools are eligible: Stephen T. Badin, Edgewood, Fairfield, Hamilton, New Miami Ross, Talawanda, and Lakota.
- Home-educated students from these high school districts are also suitable for one scholarship.
- Full-time students who are already attending a college that participated in Hamilton area high schools
- Adults are returning to college that are residents of Hamilton, Ohio.
- Talent Attraction Program Scholarships for college graduates.

Hamilton Scholarship 2023 Worth
A $500 cash annually, non-renewable. Each winner will be automatically enrolled in the Hamilton Leaders Academy as well as also receive the following:
An autographed copy of Richard Brookhiser’s Alexander Hamilton, American, an autographed copy of William Chrystal’s Hamilton by the Slice, a proclamation signed by Doug Hamilton, the fifth great-grandson of Alexander Hamilton, a Hamilton pin courtesy of the Hamilton family and letters of congratulations.
Bio-sketches of winners will appear on their website, and news releases are sent to the city, state, and federal elected officials and local newspapers.

Winners of the Hamilton Award are usually enrolled in the Hamilton Leaders Academy. They join a distinguished cohort of peers across the US who learn from one another and grow together as they take steps towards a college education.
The Hamilton Leaders Academy is a no-student cost program that helps students gain acceptance and transition successfully to university life and the workforce.
The first two years include an “academic-year” curriculum from September to April, with a week-long summer leadership institute called “Leader Week.”
The academic year consists of individual support through email and phone calls and group support through conference calls.
The first year Leader Week takes place in Seattle, while the second year concludes with a destination community service project experience.
Applicants will have to show passion and commitment to their interests. This is usually manifested in athletic, artistic, or academic achievements. The applicant (student) must demonstrate financial and personal needs.
Hamilton Friends serves students from low-income households. The applicant’s financial, family, and community situation are usually considered when choosing recipients.
Top applicants for the Hamilton Award will be interviewed through phone or Skype. Interviews will occur sometime from late March to early April.
Hamilton Scholarship 2023 Deadline Information
The application starts November. The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year; however, it is expected to remain the same as last year.

You must submit your completed application by Wednesday, JANUARY 25, 2024, at 11:59 pm PST. (If your letters of recommendation were requested by this deadline, your recommender has up to one week afterward to submit it.)
No. The Empowerment Program is free to students, including the all-expenses-paid Leader Week leadership conferences.

Yes. This is an all-expenses paid, no cost to the student trip that is compulsory to the program.
The AHS scholarship of $500 is awarded twice to Scholars at their entrance and exit from the five-year Alexander Hamilton Scholars Empowerment Program; Scholars will also receive a laptop to assist in their college studies before college.
Yes! There are no restrictions on what the scholarship can be used for, though we advise Scholars to use the money to defray the cost of college applications, school visits, college-related fees, etc.
