Judge Judy was born Judy Sheindlin on October 21st, 1942, in Brooklyn. She was born into a Jewish family of Russian, German, and Ukrainian heritage. Both of Judge Judy’s parents were German Jews.
Judge Judy attended James Madison High School in Brooklyn for her high school degree. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in government.
She furthered to New York Law School in 1965, obtaining her Juris Doctor’s degree.

Judge Judy professional career as a lawyer in 1965 started when she joined a cosmetic firm as a corporate lawyer to practice. In 1967, she resigned as a corporate lawyer. However, she restarted her career as a lawyer in a family court in 1972.
In 1982, the New York Mayor Edward Koch designated her as a criminal court judge in the Bronx branch of the family court. Four years later, she was opportune to attract the interest of common people with her attitude, which is likely described as her “no-nonsense” attitude.
A few years later, she was profiled as a “Legal Superheroine” in an article by the Los Angeles Times. This mention fetched more interest in her career as a lawyer, and she got featured on the iconic TV news magazine show ‘60 minutes.’
