Wasim was born to Zahid and Zarqa Wasim on October 23, 2000, in the Downtown, Srinagar neighborhood of Srinagar, Jammu, and Kashmir, India. She was born into a Kashmiri Muslim family.

Her father is an executive at J&K Bank in Srinagar, while her mother is a teacher. She graduated from St. Paul’s International Academy in Sonwar, Srinagar, with a tenth-grade diploma.

Career

Director Nitesh Tiwari signed Wasim in June 2015 to make her cinematic debut in the biographical sports drama Dangal (2016). The film’s principal photography began in September 2015, and she completed her portion in December of that year.

The film told the story of Pehlwani amateur wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat (Aamir Khan) who trains his two daughters Geeta (Wasim) and Babita (Suhani Bhatnagar) to become India’s first world-class female wrestlers.
