Governor Mario Cuomo also known as Mario Matthew Cuomo, was born on June 15th, 1932 in Queens, New York City, USA. He was born as the youngest of three children to Italian descent parents, Andrea and Immacolata Cuomo who were grocery store owners. 

He grew up in his birthplace where he attended New York City P.S. 50 and St. John’s Preparatory School. Later, he entered St. Jones University. However, he left school and got into baseball professionally, recruited by the Pittsburgh Pirates, where he played with its minor team.

However, he suffered a head injury, quit baseball, and went back to continue his study at St. Jones University, where he earned a BA in 1953.

In 1956, he got into the St. John’s University Law School. After he had completed his education, he started practicing as a law clerk in the New York State Court of Appeals. 

Later, he joined a small law firm in Brooklyn where he began private practice, and in the 60s, he started teaching law at St. John’s Law School.

Mario Cuomo’s political career started when he represented a community group in Queens at their legal battle with the city, which at the time threatened to replace their houses with a new high school.
