In 1990, he campaigned against Sharp again, abandoning his job to devote full-time to the campaign but he failed.
During the 1990 campaign, Pence launched a television commercial in which an actor clad in a robe and headdress and spoke in a thick Middle Eastern accent congratulated Sharp for doing nothing to wean the US off imported oil as chairperson of a House subcommittee on energy and power.
Pence’s team replied to criticism by claiming that the commercial was not about Arabs, but rather about Sharp’s lack of leadership.
However, Pence discontinued his radio show in September 1999 to focus on his successful congressional race in 2000.

Mike Pence got married to his wife Karen in 1985. The couple met while he was attending Indiana University School of Law. The marriage is blessed with three children namely; Michael, Charlotte, and Audrey.
