Commissioner in Nome, Alaska, from 1901 to 1902 for the Yotzebue Sound Point Hope District.

Pease worked as a reporter and political cartoonist for the “Portland Oregonian” during that time.

Pease was also a painter, and the National Academy of Design displayed his portrait of the artist Henry Rankin Poore. In 1954, he stopped working for newspapers and started painting again.

On August 16, 1963, he passed away in Maplewood, New Jersey, at 94. The Huntington Library has copies of his papers on file.
