The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic may have caused individuals to tighten their purse strings by looking for ways to bring more money into their pockets.

One way to achieve this is by taking online surveys.

There are websites that will pay you money or rewards in gift vouchers for users to answer questions on different topics.

If participating in an online survey is acceptable for you and someone is offering you Respondent. The first step to take is to find out if Respondent.io is legit or another online survey platform that is a scam.

Going through this constructive review will help you determine if Respondent is worth your time or not.

Comparing most online survey companies, Respondent really pays participants money for taking part in their studies. You can actually earn $100 to $150 per hour or even more.

That sounds enticing, right?

Keep reading as I show you if this platform is another way to make money from online surveys.

What is Respondent?

Respondent.io is a company that pays you “real” money to take part in research studies.

Basically, Respondent facilitates individual consumer research studies and focus groups, both in-person and online. Its structure differs from that of most online survey sites and applications.

Respondent works with both individuals survey respondents as well as companies and organizations looking for feedback.

I mean, Respondent.io is a website that helps companies like eBay and Allstate perform research studies. They do this by putting these companies in touch with verified “respondents” – that’s you, who are applying to take part in the studies.respondents and companies

From the homepage of Respondent, as shown below, the site seems to be more business/professional oriented.

Respondent also made it quite easy to sign up to their platform.

All you need to do is to enter some personal information, then you will see various surveys based on your experience.

From my experience, I can say it takes a few minutes to set up your account, choose your field, and start earning money.

Sign Up Process

The sign-up process for Respondent is quite easy. Just head over to their website and you can create an account today in minutes.

You can register with your email address or with an existing social network account (I recommend LinkedIn).

Since this online survey site seems to be more business-oriented, I had to sign up with my LinkedIn account.

The next step is to fill in your personal information. This includes your name, date of birth, address, email address, and phone number.

These are pretty standard things that every survey site will ask for. Investigating companies want to make sure they reach specific audiences.

They do this by requesting demographic information, including:

  • Gender
  • Ethnicity
  • Educational Background

It only takes a few minutes to complete the information.

Once you are done, you will find yourself on the main page of your account. You will immediately see “Marketplace Projects”, which are the surveys that respondents offer.

Who is Eligible to Join?

Anyone over the age of 18 can register as a Respondent. From what I observed, they aim most of the studies at US residents, but the site also claims to have international opportunities.

You will also need a PayPal account (to get paid!) And a Facebook or LinkedIn profile to verify your identity.

Types of Studies on Respondent

Respondent offers a variety of project types. It ranges with surveys from:

  • Online Banking Customers
  • Small Business owners
  • Health Practitioners
  • Supply Chain Professionals
  • Investment Bankers, and more

Each of these projects clearly shows how long it takes to complete and how much you pay. There is also a brief description of what they look for in a respondent.

Many of the respondents’ projects appear to be focused on small businesses or technology, but there are also more extensive consumer studies.

The projects may vary in their configuration. It depends on the specific company that is in charge of the project.

However, most are one-on-one conversations with a company representative. Others require you to keep a diary of certain activities for several days or weeks.

Mostly, the projects are well paid, but there are also surveys that pay less. You can decide whether it is worth your time.

Filtering and Selecting Projects on Respondent

Once you are done registering and logged in, you will be presented with all the different options for your project. You can see how much they are paying, how long it will take, and what type of study it is.

Project Screening

Once you have found a project that you like, you can click on it and apply.

To apply, you will need to complete a short screening survey to make sure you are the right person. It usually takes less than 5 minutes.

Often times, Respondent has more stringent requirements to be selected for surveys. This distinguishes the respondent from other online survey sites and is also the reason they pay more. Businesses seek honest feedback from the right people.

The website will display a match score of 0-100 based on the results of your initial survey. If the company wants you for its project, they will contact you through the survey system.

To be chosen for any projects in Respondent is not as easy as with other sites, even if you are a good fit. You could end up applying for multiple projects before been chosen.

Respondent.io Affiliate Program

If someone signs up for Respondent with your link and completes a paid study, they will receive $20.

This means, you will receive $20 for each referral who answers a paid survey.

You can find your personal referral link by clicking “My referrals” in the menu after logging into your account.

How Much Money Does Respondent Pay?

According to the Respondent, the average pay for a completed project is $140 per hour. However, this is not always the case. As you can see from the examples above, not all projects pay that much.

All the same, this makes Respondent the highest paying online survey platform I’ve come across.

All respondents’ payments are made through Paypal. It process payments within 8-10 days, which is not bad at all.

However, there are exception where your pay comes in 2 to 3 weeks later.

My first survey fee actually took over 3 weeks to arrive which was annoying, but it finally showed up.

Respondent.io Fees?

Respondents receive the amount of the cash incentive announced by the researcher minus a 5% fee (or $1 compliance fee, whichever is greater).

The 5% fee is for payment processing, as well as a service charge to facilitate projects. So if you get a project of $200, by the time it hits the Paypal account, it will be $190.

Notwithstanding, fees are clearly stated in the initial survey for all projects. You can see the status of your payment in the “My Surveys” tab.

Is Respondent Legit? | Respondent Reviews

Based on my experience and the experience of other readers, Respondent.io is a legit survey site for making money online.

So, if you ask, is Respondent a Scam?

The answer is No! Respondent is a legit online survey platform.

Recently, I ran a small test group of 14 people that spent 6.7 hours applying and taking part in studies and received $137.75 after fees.

This averages $20.56/hour.

Another quality that made Respondent a legit online survey site, is the fact that many well-known companies use Respondent for market research. These companies include:

  • eBay
  • Alibaba
  • VuPoint Research
  • Allstate
  • Weebly

Here’s what Kacie Wise, Senior User Experience Researcher at eBay Classifieds, had to say about Respondent:

“With Respondent, I can reach clients in global markets, have a conversation with them, and get results in a few days. This means that we can get generative information regularly, which helps us to guide our work. Respondent enables us to make better, user-informed decisions, and we can do it over and over again.”

Respondent Reviews 2023: My Experience

Most online survey sites claim to be legit but we all know that some are big scams. Respondent is one of the legit platforms for online surveys I have encountered.

It is also one of the best online survey site that pays well. At least you can expect to earn $150 or even more. That’s something worthwhile.

However, taking surveys won’t make you rich, and it’s not something you can take advantage of for a full-time job.

But if you are looking to earn extra money, Respondent pays very well if they select you for their projects. As I said, I made $190 for a few hours of work, and it was a lot of fun!

This is a simple review of Respondent from my on experience.
